During a time when education and most activities have been moved online, I have pondered the opportunities available to expand on an online platform. Although it may not be ideal for every project, there are times when projects can be expanded online. My first online hackathon, hosted by Generation Entrepreneur was the Australian Innovators Challenge (AIC). The online competition required much more initiative from our team to hustle and put together an idea that we are all proud of!
After attending various events, I started my own project called SydneyHacks. Our purpose is to teach high school students how to code in a fun and friendly environment, together. With like-minded people working on the same projects in the same environment, we want to make coding an enjoyable and communal experience, for absolute beginners and experienced programmers alike.
The recent pandemic has made it difficult to host the 24-hour programming hackathon for high school students which our team was planning. However, with our team’s resilience combined with the inspiration from various online programs we have decided to move our course online. We are launching a free program to teach Python in 8 weeks with the support of our friendly team. I hope to foster a community of high school students that learn together and build something we enjoy!
